What shock does Santa Cruz Bicycles recommend for my bike?

Our stock shocks are custom-tuned for each specific model, ensuring optimal performance and ride quality to the model's characteristics. However, if you wish to replace the stock shock for any reason, here are the specifications required to maintain the same level of performance and safety.

Shock Sizing:

A shock is measured in two dimensions: eye-to-eye and stroke. Eye-to-eye is the distance between mounting points, and stroke is the amount the shock can compress.

Example: 210x55mm means 210 is eye-to-eye, and 55 is the stroke. Current shocks use metric sizing

General Recommendations:

  • Do not change eye-to-eye or stroke unless specified.
  • Do not alter or modify links
  • Compatibility is assured with stock Fox and RockShox rear shock models.

In order of increase rear travel

Blur 4: The lightest full-suspension carbon XC bike we’ve ever made

  • Size: 190 x 40 mm (Blur XC) or 190 x 45 mm (Blur TR).
  • Stock shock: RockShox Sid Luxe and Fox Float SL.
  • Shock mounting hardware: 8 x 20 mm bushing front and rear.

Tallboy 5: Hot laps or long days in the saddle

  • Size: 190 x 45 mm.
  • Stock shock: Fox Float 
  • Compatible with Fox Float X or RockShox Super Deluxe.
  • Larger air cans (Fox X2, RockShox Vivid) or coil shocks will not fit.
  • Shock mounting hardware: 8 x 30 bushing front and rear (bearing compatible).

5010 5: Hop, skip and jump over

  • Size: 210 x 50 mm
  • Stock shock:  Fox Float or RockShox Super Deluxe
  • Compatible with: Fox Float X in various trim levels.
  • Larger air cans (Fox X2, RockShox Vivid) or coil shocks will not fit.
  • Shock mounting hardware: 8 x 30 bushing front and rear (bearing compatible).

Hightower 4: Do-it-all model that does it over and over again

  • Size: 230 x 57.5 mm
  • Stock shock:  Fox Float X or RockShox Super Deluxe
  • Compatible with various shocks, including Vivid and Float X2, and Superdeluxe or DHX2 coil 
  • Shock mounting hardware: 8 x 30 bushing front and rear (bearing compatible)

Bronson 5: Flat out on the trail to fully flat over a table

  • Size: 230 x 57.5 mm.
  • Stock shock: Fox Float X or RockShox Super Deluxe.
  • Compatible with various shocks, including Vivid and Float X2, and Superdeluxe or DHX2 coil 
  • Shock mounting hardware: 8 x 30 bushing front and rear (bearing compatible)

Megatower 2: Big wheels, long travel

  • Size: 230 x 62.5 mm (spec) or 230 x 65 mm (optional).  
  • Stock shock: RockShox Super Deluxe air or coil.
  • Compatible with Fox Float X2, DHX2, and Rockshox Vivid air.
  • Shock mounting hardware: 8 x 30 bushing front and rear (bearing compatible)

Nomad 6: Ready and willing to go wherever, whenever.

  • Size: 230 x 65 mm 
  • Stock shock: RockShox Super Deluxe, Super Deluxe coil, or Fox Float X2.
  • Compatible with Fox DHX2 or Rockshox Vivid.
