Upgrade Guide: Switching from Bosch System Controller to Kiox 400C

Ready to enhance your ride with more data? Upgrading your Bosch-equipped Santa Cruz eBike from the integrated System Controller to the Kiox 400C display is a super straightforward process! This guide will walk you through the mechanical installation and the wireless pairing process using the Bosch Flow app.

🛠️ Preparation & Tools

Before you begin, ensure your smartphone has the Bosch Flow app (version 1.28 or newer) installed. If the update does not work initially, don't panic—just uninstall and reinstall the app to give it a fresh start!

Tools Required:

  • 3mm hex key
  • T10 Torx key
  • Small Phillips screwdriver
  • Small mechanical pick (such as a Park Tool UP-3)

🚲 Step-by-Step Installation

Step 1: Mechanical Installation

  • Remove the old unit: Use your T10 Torx key to remove the Bosch top tube System Controller and its outer bezel. Carefully disconnect the internal wiring from the System Controller unit.
  • Install the Kiox: Plug in the new Kiox 400C display and secure it neatly into the frame mount using your T10 Torx key.

Step 2: Resetting the Wireless Remote

Because your handlebar remote was previously paired with your old System Controller, it must be reset so it can find its new best friend—the Kiox display!

  • Remove the remote: Use a 3mm hex key to loosen and remove the wireless Mini Remote from your handlebar.
  • Open the battery compartment: Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw located at the bottom of the remote's battery cover.
  • Power cycle: Take the battery out for at least 30 seconds to fully reset the unit's memory. Reinsert the battery and replace the cover securely.
  • Enter pairing mode: Hold down the "-" button on the remote for five seconds. A blue LED will begin blinking, letting you know it is officially ready to pair!

Step 3: Pairing with the Bosch Flow App

With the hardware locked down and the remote flashing, open up the Bosch Flow app on your smartphone to cross the finish line.

  • Navigate to Components: Inside the app, head over to the "eBike pass" section and select "components".
  • Add Device: Tap on "Add new device".
  • Select Control Unit: When the app asks "Which control unit do you have?", select Kiox 400C.
  • Pair Remote: Choose "Mini Remote" as the device to add. Follow the final on-screen prompts to wrap up the pairing.
